Pink snapper can be caught year-round, with peak activity from October to January. The minimum size
to keep varies: 50cm south of Lancelin and 41cm north of Lancelin. Target these bottom-dwelling fish
near reefs and wrecks using heavy tackle, bait, jigs, or by drifting or bottom fishing. Popular
fishing spots include Rottnest Island, Three Mile Reef, Five Fathom Bank, Cockburn Sound, Garden
Island, Jurien Bay, and Geographe Bay.
Whiting
Whiting can be caught year-round, with the best fishing typically occurring between October and
April. While there's no general minimum size limit, King George Whiting must be at least 28cm to keep.
Use light tackle and sensitive gear to target these fish with natural baits like worms, prawns, or
squid. Lures such as soft plastics or small metal lures can also be effective. Popular fishing spots
include the Swan and Canning Rivers, Perth beaches, Cockburn Sound, and estuaries.
I caught a 62cm Pink Snapper while jigging with a metal jig at 30 meters depth off Rottnest Island
in calm, clear conditions. The best fishing was in the morning.
John Smith
I caught a 55cm Tailor while spinning with a metal slug in choppy conditions at the north end of
Scarborough Beach. The fish fought hard before being landed as the sun was setting.
Joe Brown
Caught a 75cm Dhufish while bottom fishing with squid bait on the edge of Three Mile Reef in murky
water with strong current around midday.
